This Sunday
Wednesday, November 19th, 2008I am going to officially be ordained and installed as a pastor at our church. It’s been quite a journey this decade. Honestly, in 2000/2001, I was mostly interested in having a good career in sales so I could retire at 55 and spend money for the rest of my life. It’s so much different now.
When I became interested in theology and church history in late 2001, I never knew what kind of path I was taking. In seminary (2003), I didn’t see myself as one of “those guys” who would be in ministry. Something changed (2004/5) and for that I am grateful.
I see this Sunday as a new chapter for Jennifer and me. On one hand, the seminary days, though I finished in 2007, are coming to a close. On the other hand, something new and exciting begins. For this, we are going to be surrounded by old friends, new friends and lots of family. That will surely be special.
I do have one regret, though. My great-grandma, who passed away in 1996, always believed I would be a minister. When I went to college, I majored in business. I do wish she could see me today. I think she would be extremely pleased and would probably make a joke about how her prayers were answered.
