I didn’t see that one coming!

I started German last week at a local community college. I decided it would be a good idea to get the ball rolling in that direction for PhD purposes. I just hope I can keep Greek, Hebrew and Engish straight now, and my full-time schedule at Covenant.

At least time will go by more quickly now.

This was fun

For Christian Worship we had to create a worship service. This is the one I came up with. Well, the handout version. I turned in another full version with the transitional statements between the parts of the service. People can now see how much seminary has corrupted my sense of corporate worship! haha… For the purpose of the project, I envisioned a church plant setting in Yukon, Oklahoma.

A logical inconsistency

How some can be extremely dogmatic over “baptizo” having only one meaning, yet at the same time say that “oinos” (wine) has many uses (and specifically say it doesn’t mean what it really means). I just find that to be odd.

Sermon audio uploaded

I don’t know why I’m promoting this. I guess it’s because this one was so fun (AND I often forget to record my sermons, which is a “no no”), but I posted the audio from a sermon on Acts 3:1-10, which I blogged about last month . You can download the mp3, here.

The book list

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

This one’s been floating on blogs I read, but no one ever tags me….of course…who cares.

1. One book that changed your life: Children of the Promise: The Biblical Case for Infant Baptism
2. One book that you’ve read more than once: Pilgrim’s Progress, 8 times, I think…
3. One book you’d want on a desert island: Worst Case Senario Handbook
4. One book that made you laugh: The Mantra of Jabez
5. One book that made you cry: I can’t remember
6. One book you wish had been written: The Jerusalem Confession of Faith and Directory of Worship, AD 98.
7. One book you wish had never been written: Scofield’s notes to the Bible.
8. One book you’re currently reading: Missouri Ozark Waterways
9. One book you’ve been meaning to read: Confessions of a Reformission Rev.: Hard Lessons from an Emerging Missional Church (The Leadership Network Innovation) by Mark Driscoll

Getting on the right track

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

When I started out this summer, I was pushing 200 pounds, which is awful considering I have a medium frame. So after nearly three years, I gave in to my good friend Shaun, and started Body For Life. It is not a diet. It is a smarter way of eating. Six small meals, balancing carbs (whole grains) with protein, and reducing fat. By the time you eat the next meal, you’re really hungry, and you’re eating in a more balanced fashion.

There is also a good list of exercises to do. I’m sad to say I’ve not followed it as well as I should. We have stopped eating fast food and junk food. I’ve been feeling better and it’s nice to wear smaller clothes.

Well, we started it in mid-June and I’m happy to report that I’m down to almost 180. I think I was like 182 this morning.

I don’t really have a goal, except to be fit and in shape. I think it’s a shame to be overweight when there is no real good reason for it. Gaining weight because I’m married is a lame excuse.
